Washington Redskins schedule preview

The first year for the Washington Redskins under Jay Gruden was tumultuous. Their 4-12 record was a one game improvement from 2013, but not many answers appeared for the same questions that have been around the team for multiple seasons.

The Redskins saw Robert Griffin III get injured again in 2014 in week two, only to return by week nine, but not with 100% health. The Redskins then dropped their next three games, falling to the Vikings, Buccaneers, and 49ers. Griffin would be benched for Colt McCoy, heading into their game against the Indianapolis Colts. After McCoy went down with a neck injury against the New York Giants, Griffin came in and was subsequently named the starter for the rest of the year. Griffin showed flashes, but not at a consistency needed for the Redskins to be successful, and was 2-5 as a starter in 2014.

Gruden has instilled confidence in Griffin, recently stating that he would be the favorite to win the starting quarterback job heading into 2015 training camp.

The team will have a new defensive staff, as Jim Haslett was fired from his defensive coordinators duties after the season ended. The Redskins have the fifth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, and NFL.com says their top three needs are getting a premier pass rusher, defensive back or offensive tackle.

Aside from their always entertaining matchups inside the NFC East division with the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles, here is the rest of the schedule for the Washington Redskins.

At home, the Redskins host: New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins and St. Louis Rams. On the road, Washington travels to Atlanta, Carolina, New England, New York and Chicago.

The Redskins are paired up with the NFC South and AFC East for the majority of their games. The Bears and Rams are sprinkled in for their other NFC matchups. Hipmunk.com can help Washington fans rebound from their flukey 2014 season, by looking for flights to Washington D.C. If you’re looking to spend an entire weekend away before Sunday’s game, Hipmunk has hotels in Washington D.C. from $84.

Washington spent the last two seasons dealing with health issues at the most important position in football. It would be interesting to see what this team is capable of with a clean bill of health.
