Mike Leach and the Washington State air-raid offense got off to a rocky start this season, losing to Portland State at home in the season opener, but have reeled off back-to-back wins against Rutgers and Wyoming to be 2-1 heading into the Pac-12 regular season schedule.
Luke Falk threw the ball 45 times last weekend for 303 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, en route to a crucial victory. Falk has already thrown for over 1,000 yards in only three games this season and has eight touchdown passes to go along with it. As a result, Washington State ranks ninth in the nation with 362.7 passing yards per game.
On the flip side, the Cougars only rushed the ball for 75 total yards, due to Falk having -22 rushing yards, but Keith Harrington and Gerard Wicks rushed for 97 yards on 14 carries combined, while also each adding a rushing touchdown as well. For the season, the team averages only 86.7 yards per game on the ground, so teams know what they’re getting into when they play Washington State.
The Cougars spread it around in their most recent outing, per usual, as 10 players caught at least one pass in the game against Wyoming. Of the receivers, River Cracraft led the way with seven receptions for 83 yards. Dom Williams caught three passes, but two were for touchdowns.
The competition is going to step up this weekend when Wazzu faces the California Golden Bears. This weekend’s game is the third cheapest Washington State game remaining on the schedule on the secondary market, according to TiqIQ.com. Washington State football tickets have an average price of $63.07 with a get-in price of $19 for entrance into Memorial Stadium for this upcoming affair. The only games that are less expensive are against the Arizona Wildcats and Colorado Buffaloes. Hipmunk.com has flights to Berkeley to create a Californian football getaway. In addition to flights, hotels in Berkeley starting from $89 can be booked as well.
Washington State has some tough sledding ahead with conference games starting. After going on the road to play undefeated California, the Cougars have to stay on the road and battle the Oregon Ducks at Autzen Stadium. After a home game against Oregon State, Washington State goes through a four-game stretch of Arizona, Stanford, Arizona State and UCLA.
