Despite injury, Anthony Bennett is a projected top five pick in this year’s draft. At just 19 years old, the freshman forward out of UNLV is an uber-skilled player with a well-refined offensive game.
Bennett recently underwent surgery for a tear in his left shoulder. According to his doctor, the forward is expected to return to action within four months. His surgery has cost him all of the festivities (pre-draft workouts and summer league) that NBA prospects go through when first entering the league. He missed the draft combine, but was present at the lottery and had this to say about his recovery.
I start rehabbing early next month. Once I do that, I’ma go hard, try to come back quicker.
In his lone season in Vegas, Bennett played power forward for the Running Rebels. He’s projected by some to play the four at the next level, but certainly has the size to work at the three – a position of need for the Sacramento Kings. Bennett measures at 6’7 in shoes and possesses a 7’1 wingspan, which could compensate for his height if he plays the four in the NBA. Bennett is also a gifted offensive talent. He’s an adept ball-handler and has a repertoire of moves that made him UNLV’s most potent scorer this season. Bennett can get points in a variety of ways, including with his jump shot. He shot 38.3 percent from beyond the arc this year.
