WATCH: 2013 NBA Draft Prospect Breakdown – Rudy Gobert

Rudy Gobert just might be this draft’s most intriguing international prospect.

Physically speaking, Gobert has been blessed with practically all the tools.  He’s 7’2 and possesses an incredible 7’8.5 wingspan.  However at 238 lbs., he could stand to gain a little more weight, particularly in his lower body.  It’s something he’s aware of and told reporters at last month’s NBA Draft Combine.

Everybody knows if you want to play the five in the league, you gotta be strong.  I need to get stronger.  I’m gaining weight, but I need more.  I’m working on my post game, my mid-range jumper, my shot, I mean everything.  All parts of my game.

Like many big men with limited experience, he’s pretty raw offensively.  According to Draft Express, he accounted for just 9.3 percent of his team’s offensive possessions this year.  Where Gobert shines is defense.  The 20-year-old big man uses his length and height to his advantage on the defensive end and has the potential to be a real game-changer in the NBA.  In roughly 23 minutes per game this year, Gobert averaged just about two blocks a contest.  His prospects of developing into a defensive anchor might be appealing for a team like the Kings that’s struggled with defending the interior.
