Victor Oladipo posseses a skill that every NBA team values.
Defensive versatility.
The junior guard out of Indiana is one of the premiere defensive talents in this year’s draft. Oladipo may stand at just 6’4, but have no doubt that he can hang with some of the best offensive players from positions 1-3. Oladipo is an elite athlete, possesses tremendous strength and plays with a high-running motor that’s helped him become a standout defender.
The 21-year-old guard appears to have the right temperament for a future NBA player. Oladipo seems charismatic and energetic, which clearly translates to his effort on the basketball court. Here’s what Oladipo had to say about the pre-draft process and his hopes of making it in the NBA at last month’s Draft Combine.
I’m looking forward to the journey. It’s a new chapter in my life. I don’t know if you guys know anything about new chapters in life, I’m sure you guys do because everybody has them. The journey of college basketball is closed and now I’m opening a new chapter in my life and I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to be fun. And at the same time, I’m going to grind. It’s a business. You gotta be serious about it, so I’m definitely looking forward to getting in that gym.
The Kings have plenty of talented guards on their roster, but some of them lack selflessness. For a team like Sacramento that’s looking to change into a defense-first culture under new coach Michael Malone, perhaps Oladipo could be help the transition.
Mike Schmitz, an assistant video coordinator for the D-League’s Bakersfield Jam and former contributor to TrueHoop Network affiliate Valley of the Suns, has been putting together video scouting reports of prospects for Draft Express the last two years.
