Nik Stauskas may be more ready for the NBA than some might think. Playing in the Big 10 Conference for two seasons definitely helps his case.
“He’s going up against the Gary Harrisses of the world who are elite level defenders,” Kings head coach Michael Malone said of Stauskas following the draft on Thursday night. “He’s shown to me that he can handle that and he can withstand the physicality of the Big 10.”
Stauskas matched up against Harris on three different occasions this past season. The 19-year-old out of Michigan State was considered one of the best guard prospects in this year’s draft due in large part to his shooting ability, basketball IQ and defensive skills.
