So far so good for the Wisconsin Badgers on the award watch lists as Wisconsin is now four for five on getting players on award watch lists as today Jacob Pedersen was named to the John Mackey Award watch list. This award is given annually to the top tight end in the country.
Pedersen is making his third consecutive appearance on the watch list and is among 37 total players to be named to the 2013 edition. It's also the sixth time in the past seven seasons that a UW tight end has been on the Mackey Award watch list.
After last season about the only thing that could top it is winning this national award as Pedersen was named a first team All-Big Ten selection as well as the Kwalick-Clark Big Ten Tight End of the Year. He earned those after hauling in 27 receptions for 355 yards and 4 touchdowns.
In 2011 Pedersen was named a semifinalist for the Mackey Award, but didn't make the final cut. Last season Pedersen was left off after the initial cutdown at the midseason watch list.
Pedersen sits at 14 career touchdowns and with one TD catch he will match the great Pat Richter and Lee DeRamus for ninth on the all-time TD receptions list in Badgers history.
The Mackey Award was introduced starting with the 2000 season and no Badger player has ever won the award. The 14th edition of this award will once again be part of The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show airing on Dec. 12th on ESPNU.
Wisconsin did not place it's new center, Dan Voltz, on to the Rimington Award watch list this season and thus ended the perfect streak of Badgers on award watch lists.
