This is not good news, but not worrysome yet. Reggie is smart. This is his last deal with the Colts and he knows it. Check the sloppy reporting in this PFT article.
Now NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora reports Wayne plans to skip the Colts’ only mandatory minicamp of the offseason next week. We grew tired of waiting for NFL.com to post the full story (let’s go, people) and asked La Canfora if the legal problems or contract were to blame for his absence.
He says the contract “is definitely an issue.”
Update: Wayne commented on his hold out
“I have tremendous respect for Jim Irsay, Bill Polian and the entire Indianapolis Colts organization, but at this time, we are in disagreement concerning my contract situation,” Wayne said in a statement sent to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. “Therefore, I will not be attending this weekend’s minicamp.”
Wayne misses voluntary practices annually, so he’s used to getting ready for the season on his own.
“I will continue training diligently in Florida, as I have each offseason since my rookie year, to ensure that I am fully ready for this season,” he said. “I hope that a fair resolution can be reached in the not-too-distant future that allows me to achieve my goal of playing my entire career with the Indianapolis Colts.”
