The Cardinals, unable to escape the strong gravitational pull to .500, are in the midst of a 3-game losing streak.
And the deeper we get into 2017, it’s becoming more likely that the thing we’ll remember most from this season will be this:

The Post-Dispatch has been on the #RallyCat beat, blessing us with this very confusing story yesterday.
As far as I can tell from the article, the #RallyCat is currently in the possession of the St. Louis Feral Cat Outreach.
“We’ve had thousands of inquiries from throughout the region, including many great organizations like the St. Louis Cardinals, in addition to many cat-loving individuals about adopting Rally,” the center said. The center said it had an adoption process in place, and the most important thing is for Rally to have a happy and healthy life.
Pretty generic statement. Not committing to much. I can understand that.
The Cardinals, on the other hand, seem to under the impression that the #RallyCat will be living at Busch Stadium soon.
“The St. Louis Feral Cat Outreach organization has assured us they will be returning our cat to us after a mandatory 10-day quarantine period,” said Ron Watermon, the team’s vice president of communications.
“Rally Cat will be cared for by our team, making the Cardinals Clubhouse his home,” Watermon said. “Mike and our players are looking forward to loving and caring for him.”
Cool. Cool.
So the Cardinals are planning a #RallyCat appreciation night for SEPT 10th where funds raised will go to the aforementioned STL Feral Cat Outreach (which the organization said “It is our hope he will be ready for his first public appearance, hopefully at the Rally Cat Appreciation Night.”), but no commitments have been made about actually handing over the #RallyCat to the team?
Weird.
Good thing there’s a new #RallyCat song to distract us from the adoption drama:

Cardinals fans are the best.
As of this post, Randy Mayfield has 11 likes, 0 dislikes, 0 comments and 948 views on his video. Something tells me when other fan bases (and probably Deadspin) get wind of this jam, it will bring out the very best in the always supportive YouTube commenting community.
The Cardinals head to Pittsburgh for a 4-game series against the Pirates.
Let’s hope after a turbulent first half of this week, the #RallyCat can put his uncertain future aside for the time being and get back to work providing the Cardinals wins.
