The Sox came into this game having split the series so far. The Sox would need to win last night to take the series from the Halos and they had former Angels John Lackey on the mound vs. Jered Weaver. Lackey continued to be one of the best arms in our rotation, unfortunately he would get the loss due to the Sox bats getting nothing going against Weaver.
The Red Sox had a chance to score a run in the top of the first and wasted that opportunity. Ellsbury had a leadoff double and then Nava hit a single to get him to 3rd with no outs. You'd think the Sox would get at least one run in this situation, but Pedey lined out to 3rd and then both Papi and Nap struck out. The Sox didn't take advantage and Weaver didn't give them any other opportunities. In the bottom of the first the Angels took the lead when Mike Trout did that he does well, hit a HR. Sox 0-1. The Angels added another run in the 5th when Conger hit a solo HR. Sox 0-2.
Lackey pitched 7 strong innings, but without any run support he was looking to get his 6th loss of the season. Lackey's pitching line for the night was 116 pitches, 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB and 9 Ks. Not too shabby at all. Tazawa took the mound in the 8th and ended up giving up the Angels 3rd run of the night. Tazawa gave up a leadoff triple to Aybar and then a sac fly to Trumbo. Sox 0-3. After Weaver was out of the game, the Sox bats weren't able to crack their bullpen either and lost the game and the series.
Red Sox 0 Angels 3 BOXSCORE
