Even with a fresh face at quarterback and a so-called “revamped” offensive line, the Philadelphia Eagles dropped their sixth straight game losing to the Washington Redskins by the final score of 31-6. The only Eagles points came off of two Alex Henery field goals.

With Michael Vick out with a concussion suffered in last week’s loss to the Cowboys, rookie quarterback, Nick Foles, got the start. The day started off as a disaster for Foles. On the first offensive possession of the game, Brent Celek tipped a pass from Foles which ended up in the hands of Redskins cornerback, DeAngelo Hall. The interception turned into a six yard touchdown pass from Robert Griffin III to Darrel Young.

The second possession did not go any better for the Eagles offense. Under pressure to get rid of the ball, Nick Foles threw his second interception of the day to Brandon Meriweather. Foles slowly began to get better movement towards the end of the first half but never got the ball in the endzone. Foles would finish the day 21/46 with 204 yards and two interceptions.

Lesean McCoy also had an afternoon to forget. He finished the game with 15 carries for 45 yards and six receptions for 67 yards. With 30 seconds left in the first half, he fumbled and turned the ball over to the Redskins. Although Shady fumbled only three times in over 800 touches in his first six seasons prior to this one, today’s fumble made his third of this season alone. In the Eagles final possession, McCoy was shaken up after a huge hit and was carted off the field.

The Eagles defense also had plenty of struggles in this game. Rookie quarterback, Robert Griffin III caused tremendous trouble for the defense with a career high four touchdown passes. Those touchdowns included a 49 yard pass to Aldrick Robinson off of confused deep field coverage and a 61 yard pass to Santana Moss off of terrible Brandon Boykin and Kurt Coleman coverage. RGIII finished the game with 14/15 with 200 yards and four touchdowns.

With such a tough loss and even tougher losing streak, the Eagles officially fall two games behind the New York Giants in the NFC East race. With playoff hopes drifting away, speculation is starting to rise over who will continue to season as the Eagles starting quarterback and who will be the head coach next season.

The Eagles hope to add a little light to their season next Monday night as they take on the Carolina Panthers who have seen their share of struggles this season. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 pm.
