In a game between two red-hot teams that many believe is filled with NFC playoff implications, the Philadelphia Eagles fell to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau field by the final score of 53-20.
Despite a seemingly effortless 64-yard bomb from Aaron Rodgers to Jordy Nelson on the Packers’ first drive, it looked as though the defense would bail out the Eagles with a huge third down stop. The defensive stand held the Packers to an early field goal to avoid early disaster.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, disaster was the theme of the remainder of the game. Rodgers showed why he is one of the best quarterbacks in the league with a stunning drive consisting of two third and long conversions. The drive was capped off with a six-yard connection from Rodgers to wide receiver Davante Adams for a touchdown.
The Eagles usually impressive special teams fell victim to the Packers attack as well when Micah Hyde took a Donnie Jones punt 75 yards for a touchdown. Wide receiver and special teams player Josh Huff noticeably missed the open tackle that set up the Hyde return.
Rodgers and the Packers offense continued their attack throughout the remainder of the first half with 27-yard touchdown to Nelson and a one-yard Eddie Lacy score coming after a Bradley Fletcher pass interference call in the endzone.
The only Eagles first-half points came off the foot of Cody Parkey who hit two from 33 yards out.
The second half started just as bad as the first half went as a struggling LeSean McCoy fumbled, giving the ball to Green Bay. Despite coming up with a three-and-out, the Packers defense took full advantage on their next drive with a pick-six from Julius Peppers.
Sanchez eventually connected with wide receiver Jordan Matthews for a six-yard touchdown, however the Packers quickly responded with an Eddie 32-yard catch and run for a touchdown.
The damage did not let up before both a Sanchez pick and a botched snap that was brought back for a Green Bay touchdown by Casey Hayward before the torturous game finally ended.
Next Sunday, the Eagles look to wash the nasty taste out of their mouths as head back to Lincoln Financial Field to take on the Tennessee Titans at 1 p.m.
