It’s not just any week 17 loss to send the Eagles cleaning out their locker room. This is what appears to be the final game in an overall successful fourteen-year career of head coach Andy Reid, a career that has sunk to all-time lows over the last two years. In addition, an image of Michael Vick sitting on the bench late in the fourth quarter gives all indication that Vick will be searching for a job for 2013.
The Eagles ended their 2012 season with an embarrassing loss to division rival New York Giants by the final score of 42-7. Of the Giants points, 35 of them came just in the first half alone.
Earlier in the week, the Eagles gave quarterback, Michael Vick one last opportunity to take the field in 2012. After a successful onside kick to start the game, a very rusty Vick got off to a unfavorable start throwing an interception during the first drive which set up a three yard touchdown pass from Eli Manning to Reuben Randle. Vick would finish the game 19/35 with 197 yards, a touchdown, and an interception before being benched for quarterback, Trent Edwards, late in the fourth quarter.
Despite struggles of the last few weeks, Eli Manning and the Giants offense destroyed the Eagles defense. Eli Manning finished the game 13/21 with 208 yards and five touchdowns including two touchdowns to wide receiver Reuben Randle. Ahmad Bradshaw, who had his fair share of injuries finished with 16 carries for 107 yards and a touchdown.
The Eagles defense proved that indeed their struggles could get worse from what we have seen in past weeks. Numerous blown coverages by safeties, Colt Anderson and Kurt Coleman, as well as cornerback, Nnamdi Asomugha, led to many of Eli’s touchdown drives. After two pass interference penalties, Nnamdi Asomugha was benched.
The Eagles only points came from a second quarter, seven yard touchdown pass from Vick to Jeremy Maclin. The Eagles had a chance at a 20 yard field goal which was poorly kicked by Alex Henery, a kick that mirrored the entire 2012 season for the Eagles.
With Andy Reid and Michael Vick seemingly on their way out, this Eagles off-season will be perhaps the most interesting one in the last 14 years. Should the Eagles decide to release Vick, they must do so before Feb. 6 in order to avoid paying him the $15M he will be owed and instead only owing him $3M. Expect to see big changes on both sides on the ball and be sure to know that Eagles coverage will continue right here at Total Sports Live.
