They say that defense wins games, but I’m sure the offense has to do at least something to make that happen. Today, the offense got absolutely nothing done as the Eagles fell to the division-rival Dallas Cowboys by the final score of 20-10.

The Eagles defense came out as the only saving grace of the first half. Dallas’ first two possession of the game resulted in two straight three-and-outs. However on their third possession, Tony Romo and the Cowboys were able to advance to the one-foot line. Despite being set up for the easy score, the defense put on an impressive stand, holding the Cowboys to a field goal.

While the defense was able to hold Dallas to just six first-half points, the offense was anything but impressive. The Eagles first possession resulted in a three-and-out with a time-of-possession of less than a minute.

Showing shades on the end of Monday night’s game, the Eagles decided to throw on third and one rather than feeding Murray. Of the Eagles first four possessions, three of them were three-and-outs with the only first-down coming as a result of a penalty. The Eagles were only able to rack up a miserable 21 total yards of offense in the first half.

The Eagles looked as if they were going to get something going on offense early on in the second half, but things turned out to be more of the same. On the following punt, Dallas was able to penetrate and block the Donnie Jones punt, which was scooped up by Kyle Wilber and returned for a touchdown.

The Eagles defense would come up with a huge turnover as Fletcher Cox and Jordan Hicks forced a Tony Romo fumble, but the offense would again blow a huge opportunity with a Sam Bradford thrown interception in the endzone.

The Eagles would not get on the board until early in the fourth quarter with a 46-yard Cody Parkey field-goal.

The Eagles would come up with a huge turnover as Byron Maxwell forced a fumble on Gavin Escobar, giving Malcolm Jenkins a chance to recover. It took not even an entire play for the party to be spoiled as a early snap by Jason Kelce led to an immediate turnover. A touchdown pass from back-up quarterback Brandon Weeden to Terrance Williams late in the fourth quarter added insult to injury for the Eagles.

Next Sunday, the Eagles will travel to MetLife Stadium to take on Ryan Fitzpatrick and the New York Jets in a 1 p.m. showdown. We’ll have to see how next week’s showing will determine what the long road ahead will look like.
