We are back and it is the trade deadline edition of the mailbag. It is a great time to be alive! Let us get it going.
@BuckeyeStHockey who is for sure gone? Who might be a surprise player traded
— Mike (@moikemoike5) February 23, 2016
I don’t think any players are definitely gone at the trade deadline. The team ideally needs to open up some cap space this offseason and trade away some aging assets. Whether they do that now or later remains to be seen. That is why you constantly hear names like Scott Hartnell and Fedor Tyutin brought up.
Hmm, surprise player?
Any player who is getting close to thirty and has some term is probably going to get a long hard look from the front office. After Johansen was moved, the core changed andthere is a chance that an unknown trade could startle folks come deadline day.
Tyutin or Scott…who actually goes https://t.co/46n5AZ7j1A

If I had to bet between the two I would probably say Tyutin. After having a weak defensive corps for a while the Jackets’ group is about to turn into a significant strength with names like Paliotta and Werenski surely competing for jobs in the near future. It would be poor asset management for the team to hold onto Tyutin and continue to play him on the bottom pair.
@BuckeyeStHockey #CBJ since Hartnell and Tyutin have been rumoured to be traded, how long do you think the team will keep Clarkson?
— Debbie Holwadel (@deborah80msj) February 23, 2016
Clarkson isn’t going to be traded anytime soon, folks. Sorry.
@BuckeyeStHockey how do we get Dano back from Chicago?
— Doug Edwards (@Doug_DadOfFour) February 23, 2016
For that to happen the Jackets would have to make the money work. He was a main part of the Saad trade and an heir apparent to him in the eyes of the Blackhawks. Chicago would demand a winger who can contribute immediately. Sounds a little like Scott Hartnell, eh? Maybe take someone like Bickell back?
In all seriousness that ship has sailed. I wish Dano all the luck in the world. Look towards the future, people!
@BuckeyeStHockey Who gets called up first to replace Hartnell? Zaar, Chaput, Biorkstrand, that mullet guy?
— Nate Beougher (@NateBooger) February 23, 2016
It will probably be Chaput as he has paid his dues and done everything for the Monsters this year. A player like Zaar is interesting; he is having an under the radar year and probably deserves some time in the NHL this year. Zaar is even outscoring Bjorkstrand and Milano. Those two “big names” are having okay years but look as if they need some more seasoning before we see them getting time in the NHL.
@BuckeyeStHockey with how crap this year is, can we accept moral victories like nearly beating Detroit in Motown?
— Fletcher Keel (@FletchTopper) February 24, 2016
Moral victories don’t mean anything. This year was supposed to be a landmark year for the team and it has been anything but. I believe the team should tank and try to get the best pick possible. That is a statement that may ruffle some feathers, but to somehow salvage this year they need a good player in the draft.
