If you’ve happened to read CBSSports.com or ESPN.com recently, you would think that the Bengals, Broncos, and Colts already have their tickets punched to the playoffs. Writers are slobbering over the possibility of a Manning vs Manning Super Bowl.
Get a grip. It’s week 5.
Anyone remember who the division leaders were last year in week 5?
NY Giants, Chicago, Carolina, Arizona, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, and Denver.
Guess what? 3 of those 8 teams didn’t make the playoffs.
If the season had ended in week 5 last year, as some are ready to proclaim it over this year, these 4 teams would have been wild cards:
Washington, Dallas, New England, Indianapolis
Only one of those teams made the playoffs.
All in all, 6 of the 12 teams that were in the top 6 after week 5 last year didn’t make the playoffs.
What does that mean? That the season is far from over. Washington started 6-2 last year. They finished 2-6 and missed the playoffs. Get a grip folks, it’s Week 5. There’s a lot of football still to be played. Minnesota may look tough now, but what happens when Favre’s arm goes kaput?
In Steelers news, Aaron Smith, the anchor of our run defense, was put on the IR today. This is a big blow to the team, and the run defense won’t be nearly as good without him in there. However, now is the time for some of the young kids to step up and earn their stripes on the D-line. We’re looking at you first round pick Ziggy Hood and recently re-signed Ra’Shon Harris.
