Week Eight SEC Predictions

Those pesky Auburn Tigers. If I pick them to lose then they win, if I pick them to win then they lose. I went 4-1 last week only missing on the Florida/Auburn game. So that brings me to 43-11 on the year. Let’s get onto this weeks games…

Jacksonville State (5-1) at Kentucky (2-4, 0-3), Noon EST, ESPNU

This is an interesting one. I think everybody remembers Jacksonville State shocking Ole Miss last year. And I also think everybody knows that Kentucky has just been awful so far this year. Remember last year when Kentucky gave up 5 TDs to Georgia’s Washaun Ealey? Do you also remember where Washaun Ealey transferred this summer? It was Jacksonville State. Jacksonville State’s one loss has come to Chattanooga (who has former Tennessee Vol B.J. Coleman at QB). As awful as Kentucky has been this year, and it has been awful (it’s only wins have come against Western Kentucky and Central Michigan), I think they will be able to squeak this one out against the Gamecocks. Jacksonville State definitely has a shot in this one, especially if they can get Washaun Ealey going, but I just think Kentucky survives in this one. If Kentucky doesn’t win here, they won’t win another game this year (well…maybe Ole Miss).

Arkansas (5-1, 1-1) at Ole Miss (2-4, 0-3), 12:21 PM  EST, SEC Network

One would think that if Houston Nutt has one trick left he would pull it out here against his former employer. But I just can’t see that working. Arkansas has bounced back from their thrashing at the hands of Bama to win back-to-back games against Texas A&M and Auburn and they’ve had two weeks to prepare for an over-matched Ole Miss squad. Add this to the fact that Ole Miss just lost two seniors off of their defense to season ending injury and you have a recipe for disaster in this one for the Rebels. I expect Bobby Petrino to put his foot on the pedal and run over Nutt in this one. The Hogs just have too much offense for the Rebels.

Auburn (5-2, 3-1) at LSU (7-0, 4-0), 3:30 PM EST, CBS

LSU got some bad news this week as the Honey Badger and leading rusher Spencer Ware are suspended for this game. How did Auburn counter? By announcing that they will be giving Ted Mosby of How I Met Your Mother fame his first collegiate start at QB. What’s that you say? It’s not Ted Mosby? It’s Clint Moseley? Oh, I guess that makes sense. What doesn’t make sense is Gene Chizik putting in a guy who has attempted only 9 passes all year against one of the top defenses in all of the Nation. LSU wins this one.

Army (2-4, 0-3) at Vanderbilt (3-3, 1-3), 7:00 PM EST, ESPNU

First off I would just like to warn Army defensive linemen to watch out for chop blocks to the back of their legs as plays are ending. The other thing I would tell them to watch out for is Jordan Rogers. He had the best 4 for 19 game I’ve ever seen last week against Georgia. The stats are a little misleading because he did come in and show a lot of moxie and leadership as he led Vandy back from the dead to almost pull the upset of Georgia. One of the things Rogers did was make plays with his feet as he ran for 80 yards and really motivated them and moved the ball in the second half when he was in at QB. I think this carries over this week and Vandy snaps it’s three game losing streak.

Vanderbilt 24 Army 17

Tennessee (3-3, 0-3) at Alabama (7-0, 4-0), 7:15 EST, ESPN 2

Hmmm…so we have one team that is 0-3 in the conference and one that is 4-0. The 4-0 team is also the home team in the game. And what’s that you say? The 4-0 team also has a Heisman Contender on their team? And the 0-3 team is starting their back-up QB? Sounds like a tough call to me. What do you think?
