Week Five: Buckeye State Hockey Mailbag

.

Another week goes by and the Jackets are in the midst of their West Coast road trip. No better time for me to answer some mailbag questions, eh?

You can always send them in via Twitter or email at [email protected]. Let’s get to it.

I don’t think they will rush Werenski along for the sake of the team but he may be so damn good that his play may just force the issue. If he continues to play the way he has it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see him in the league next season. He already has five points this season in six games for the University of Michigan, a solid mark for an eighteen year old player in the NCAA. He definitely has top pair potential: he plays special teams for the Wolverines, he logs top minutes, and he is also one of the top scorers. You can’t ask for much more from a young prospect.

The subject of an outdoor game always gets brought up. It is a fun topic that has been touched on, over and over again.

I don’t think a non-playoff season really effects the team and its potential for an outdoor game. They simply need to continue to build interest and support of the team and then wait their turn with the league schedule.

The Horseshoe is a nationally known stadium and the NHL must be salivating at the idea of being able to play there. I am sure they have a plan they would like to put place, and now it’s just up to the NHL to make the request and get Ohio State to be willing to play along. It would be a tremendous event for the city as a whole.

So no, I don’t think this season has much bearing on whether or not the Jackets get an outdoor game. Patience is a virtue, my friend.

Boo. Boo until your voice goes hoarse. Do it when you think the team deserves it and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Don’t let anyone determine your fandom. The valleys are just going to make the peaks that much sweeter for Jacket fans. Stay tuned for the good.

That is a tough question. Johansen is going to get his points, he is one of the most consistent players in that regard for the Blue Jackets. The recent war of words happening in the Dispatch is disconcerting but shouldn’t be seen as anything more than a blip on the radar for him, and thankfully, that noise seems to have dissipated. Johansen still has a very real opportunity to get 70+ points this season, which may not be top twenty worthy this year, but it is damn close.

SportsClubStats, a well known and reputable site for NHL playoff chances currently has the Jackets at 1.6% as of Monday. While not great odds, they still have a chance. It may be the same odds as me winning the lottery or finally graduating college but hell you still have to try don’t ya?

Until next week!
