Another week in the books, and a lot has happened in the world of the Blue Jackets. As always you can send us a tweet (@BuckeyeStHockey) or an email on Monday at [email protected] if you have a question you would like to ask.
Let’s dive right into the mailbag.
@BuckeyeStHockey Why is Tortorella?
— Ryan Wilson (@GunnerStaal) October 21, 2015
Hmmm. Why is Tortorella? Well I think he meets a bunch of the requirements that the front office was looking for in a head coach. He is a winner, and his extensive background with both the Rangers and Lightning proves as much. At least that’s what the CBJ are telling themselves at the moment. Tortorella is the antithesis of Richards, so it really is a culture change for the organization (one they wanted a switch to for some time). Is Tortorella the man for that job? That remains to be seen.
@BuckeyeStHockey why should I have faith that the front office knows what it is doing?

I got a couple of similar questions about this very point. There is plenty to like about this front office. You have to love the confidence it takes to go out and get a player like Brandon Saad. You also have to like the drafting ability thus far as it looks like most of the high picks are hitting for GMJK. On the disappointing end you can point to the defense, which needs an improvement or two. It is tough to remember that GMJK has only been on the job for two and a half years, too. Tortorella is Jarmo’s first personal coaching hire, an interesting choice that could make the GM look like a genius (if all goes right).

I have a sense that Tortorella is going to be right at home in Columbus and won’t feel the need to hold anything back.
@BuckeyeStHockey do you guys at bs still think jarmo manages a trade for better d?
— Brett Sidoryk (@iamTwigggy) October 21, 2015
It has been a well known fact for the past couple of days that GMJK was looking to make a trade for a defensemen before firing Todd Richards. Both Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet and the Columbus Dispatch’s Aaron Portzline reported as much. The name that popped up on Portzline’s radar was Adam Larsson. It’s a name that I don’t believe is on the block right now; Larsson’s only 22 years old and is finally coming into his own. While the Devils rebuild is still underway, it wouldn’t make much sense for them to trade a young, dynamic defenseman like Larsson. I don’t expect a trade to be made imminently, but if the season stays on the path it’s currently on? I could see a move being made around the trade deadline for a long term play.

Ohhhh… this is a good one. I’d have to go with either Misery with Kathy Bates or Dazed and Confused. I think both are apt.
@BuckeyeStHockey what will the jackets final record be?
— 🤔🤔 (@LewisCommaTom4) October 20, 2015
This is a question that has to be carefully answered. I don’t think they can make it all the way back to the playoffs, but I also don’t think they’re going to continue on this less-than-stellar pace. It really depends on how they do over the course of the next month or so. If they can post a winning record, the Blue Jackets could see themselves picking outside of the top ten.
@BuckeyeStHockey @Sam_Blazer what's the unofficial rhyming sweepstakes name for Matthews?
— Daneel (@0hioan) October 20, 2015
The season just started! I am not even thinking about potential number one pick Auston Matthews. You shouldn’t be either!
Until next week!
