If you haven’t noticed by now (and let’s face it, it’s pretty hard not to) the Bloguin network is expanding faster than Keely Shaye Smith’s waistline (here’s the “before” if you’re interested). I try to find stuff from other Bloguin sites to link throughout the week, but I’d like to make an all Bloguin weekend link post a regular feature here at D4L. Don’t forget to take a look at the other great sites Bloguin has to offer.
- Thankfully, Larry Granillo from Wezen-Ball lets me start this post off with a bang. Over at Bloguin Outsider, a general sports site that our very own Bob Biscigliano also contributes to, Larry thinks that NASA should sponsor a NASCAR car to generate more interest in the space program. He also believes that it may push younger fans into more mathematical and science based careers. I don’t see anything wrong with the idea, and hopefully something like this comes into action in the future.
- Guys, if your girl isn’t too sports savvy but still wants to learn, put a ring on it and then send her to GuysGirl, Bloguin’s 2009 Rising Star award winner, to study up. Over there, Blythe takes a look into the glorious past that is sports movies from the 1990s, finding real-life grown-up counterparts for the characters from the movie Little Giants. My addition to the list? Spike’s dad would definitely be Craig James for obvious reasons.
- If you haven’t read anything from Real Fake Sports before, go bookmark the site now. I was just pointed to it earlier this week and it’s already becoming one of my favorites on the net. Andy has been spitting out all kinds of awesome, including this post about the NFL’s new overtime rules, and this regarding a potential interview with Ben Roethlisberger.
- Any site that has both “Awesome Fight” and “Hot Olympians” in their list of popular tags is a winner in my book, and The Slanch Report is no exception. Slanch is really excited about Johnny Damon’s announcement to regrow the caveman beard he sported as a member of the Boston Red Sox in the early 2000s. Also, Kurt Warner walks it out.
- The Daily Something, yet another great baseball site on the Bloguin network, thinks the Twins made the right move by re-signing Joe Mauer, even if the money was ridiculous. Bill outlines how Mauer’s career could project based on the stats of catching greats from the past. Long story short: Mauer could be one of the greatest catchers of all-time by career’s end. In other news, Yankees GM Brian Cashman isn’t too happy about Mauer’s extension.
- A Stern Warning, one of the few sites in this post I’ve linked before, found a couple of cool videos featuring Trailblazers C Greg Oden exploring the city of Portland. “On the Go with G.O.” is the name of the video series, and they help to show off the goofy side of Oden’s personality, something we haven’t seen with all the issues he’s gone through in his young career.
- Favre Dollar Footlongs tackles the issue of increasing the NCAA tournament field to 96 teams and brings up a pretty good idea: increase the number of play-in games, not the size of the field itself. I don’t think the NCAA should expand at all, especially when most bubble teams are knocked out of the tourney in the first round or two anyway. I think the tourney is perfect as is, and the ratings and relative excitement over it speak for themselves.
- Bloguin’s NFL Draft Blog has been doing some serious work lately debating the merits of various prospects up for consideration in the first round. You can see what Brett and David think about D4L favorite Ndamukong Suh here, while their profile of Gerald McCoy is here.
- Nightmare on Helm Street was recently featured during a Red Wings broadcast (a video/screenshot would be much appreciated), and for good reason. This post is one of the reasons Animal Drew was brought in by Bloguin just a couple of months after starting NOHS. His site is definitely worth a bookmark if you’re a Wings fan.
- Although it’s pretty unbearable anytime the Penguins play the Wings, Pensblog is easily one of the best sites on the net throughout the rest of the year. Their preview of today’s showdown with the Philadelphia Flyers is just an example of what they’re capable of on a daily basis.
- A few quick hits to finish this off: 18 to 88 has a random but awesome idea for the NBA draft lottery, With Malice is always worth a read whether you’re a Lakers fan or not, and make sure to visit our friends at Thunder Treats for more Cougar Madness.
