After being away from my computer this weekend I have not had the opportunity to sit down and write about the Blue Jackets this past weekend. Let us sit down and talk about them, CBJ community. First, let us watch some weekend game highlights.

Highlights

Weekend News and Notes

  • How crazy have these past couple games been for Curtis McElhinney? His lateral movement has looked so much better than in the past and seems to be playing for his next contract. Will he be able to keep this up even though his play has been against the odds?

  • After a short goalless drought, Nick Foligno, has three goals in two games and is once again setting the world on fire. His contract which has been ridiculed by many outside of Central Ohio is showing his value in the short term, just how well will it hold up over time?
  • Ryan Johansen scored his first short handed goal of his career this weekend. A fact that surprised may including myself, his usage on the special teams while not surprising is an outstanding development for the front office, who have said they expect more from the young center. If you are the young center how can you not be seeing dollar signs once again? John Davidson said that they wanted Johansen to “make them pay”, you may be getting that wish JD.
  • An interesting side bar that wasn’t really talked about in the CBJ twitterverse/blogosphere was a comment from Jeff Marek talking about Jake Voracek’s time in Columbus and how his exit wasn’t as graceful as many have been lead to believe. If you listen to the February 6th edition of MvsW while bringing up Evander Kane’s recent news, Marek brings up how all the top point producers this year are players that have not had the best maturity. He cites Maclean as saying Voracek falls under that category along with Tyler Seguin and Patrick Kane. While not terribly news worthy, it is interesting to note that Maclean was canned after the 06-07 season and Voracek was drafted by a new management group. Word of mouth around the Blue Jacket organization? While all of it is in the past, just how good would a fully developed Jake Voracek look in Union Blue. A man can dream can’t he?
  • This should be an eventful week for Scott Hartnell who will be playing in his 1000th game against the Los Angeles Kings this evening. What a great career for Hartnell, who has spent parts of his career with the Predators and Flyers as well. LA King, Jarret Stoll was nice enough to congratulate him with a celebratory bottle of wine, surely a gesture to throw Hartnell off his game tonight. All joking aside I can’t wait to see what Scott Hartnell does with the rest of his career in Columbus. Congrats, Scott!
