Weekend thoughts

Big Ten Bowl Games

Later today, the first Big Tenbowl game will take place.  Wisconsin is looking to put a happy ending on a very disappointing season by beating Florida State.

Wisconsin was once 3-0 and beating the crap out of Michigan in Week 4.  Their three wins (to that point) were somewhat impressive, as was the 19-0 halftime lead over the Wolverines.  And then it all fell apart in horrific fashion.

The Badgers allowed 27 second-half points to Michigan (who only scored that mony points in a game two other times) and lost a heartbreaker.  They followed it up with a last-minute loss to Terrelle Pryor’s legs, 20-17.  Blowout losses to Penn State and Iowa came next, and Wisky found themselves at 3-4 before they could recover.  Yet, they never fully recovered, needing overtime to beat Cal Poly.

At 4:30 today, they can make the pain fade away, or they can sink their coach into a deeper pit of doubt.  Mike at Zombie Nation thinks I’m a Big Ten homer (and I kinda am), and as a result I will go with Wisconsin.

On Monday, Northwestern becomes the second Big Ten school to take the field.  That one will be a nightmare.

Cleveland Browns

Ahhh, who cares.  Just beat the Steelers, fire Romeo Crennel, and forget about the whole damn season.

Cleveland Cavaliers

Yes, it is entirely possible for the Cavs to lose less games than the Browns in a single season.

This Cavalier team may be the best ever to don the wine and gold.  They’re certainly the best I’ve ever witnessed, and I went to several games in the 1988-89 season when they won 57 games.  We’re looking at breaking the 60-win mark this year, and we’re on pace to win 71 games….but we’ve had a lighter schedule early than we will late.

Their Christmas Night win was glorious, as they scored the game’s final 13 points to stave off what would have been Washington’s best win of the season.  THOSE are the games that they lost last year, and they play the game this year like the dominating squad they should be.  This team seemingly refuses to fail and has an excellent chance at going 13-1 in the month of December.

Their upcoming games;

  • 12/28 – Miami (16-12)
  • 12/30 – at Miami (16-12)
  • 1/2 – Chicago (13-16)
  • 1/4 – at Washington (4-23)
  • 1/7 – Charlotte (11-19)

Those are five winnable games, which could put us at 30-4….and then Boston comes to town.  That night will be insane.  The Celtics, having lost their last two games, stand at 27-4 right now.  It will put the two best teams in the NBA head-to-head and should be a great game.

Go ahead and get your tickets now on ebay…the price will likely double in the next two weeks before tip-off.
