Well after a few days with a lot of twists and turns, Daisuke Matsuzaka was finally introduced to the media of Boston and also the national media as well. Here are some quotes from Dice-K:
“I’d like to contribute to the world championship,” Matsuzaka said. “I’d like to meet Curt Schilling.”
When asked about what he thought of Fenway Park:
“Very beautiful and very impressed, When the season starts, it’s going to be completed. I’m looking forward to that.”
And finally some quotes from everyone’s favorite General Manager, Theo Epstein:
“Today, what we’re really doing is announcing the signing of a national treasure,” general manager Theo Epstein said. “We understand his importance in Japan. We know what he represents.
“To the fans in Japan, we pledge to do everything we can to support Daisuke … and to ensure that he’ll be a success. Not that he needs much help,”
An interesting tidbit if your thinking about buying Red Sox opening day tickets for 2007. Matsuzaka is most likely to be the starter for opening day at Fenway against the Seattle Mariners. The first batter he will probably face is Ichiro. Interesting thought to ponder as we countdown to the start of spring training.
Larry Lucchino also stated that he would like for the Red Sox to go over and play games in Japan. So I guess in a few years, the Red Sox will probably open up their season in Japan. Just as long as they don’t bring Matsui over too. The Sox/Yanks rivalry only belongs in Boston and New York.
