The Brooklyn Nets have finally traded for Dwight Howard! Or maybe not. According to ESPN News, the Brooklyn Nets ended negotiations with the Orlando Magic for their star center after a multitude of trades failed over a two week period.
On Wednesday, not only did the Nets back out of their chase for Dwight Howard, but they signed their injury plague center Brook Lopez to a four-year, $60 million max deal. Now the bigger question arises. Can the Nets win with Deron Williams, Gerald Wallace, Joe Johnson, and Brook Lopez?
I don’t think so. The Brooklyn Nets will be a playoff team, but by no means can they compete with the Miami Heat, at least not now. This team is returning with a better squad, only this time, they have a shooter in Joe Johnson. Do not expect the Nets to win the championship anytime soon, but do expect them to be contenders, something that hasn’t been said since the Lakers beat the Nets in the 2003 NBA finals.
“Patience is a virtue”, but can the Nets chase down the Heat, Knicks, and Celtics? We will have to wait and see.
