Today it was announced by the Columbus Blue Jackets that both Alexander Wennberg and Brandon Dubinsky would both be coming off IR in anticipation of the Wednesday game against the New Jersey Devils. Both missed the last six games due to injury, Wennberg with a foot injury and Dubinsky with an elbow injury.
Dubinsky has eleven points (4-7-11) in sixteen games and is a player the Jackets have sorely missed over the past couple of weeks. He still finds himself sixth on the team in points even though he has missed the previous six games. Wennberg on the other hand only has one point on the season but is a valuable player moving forward. As the team begins to rebound from PDO hell, Wennberg stands to benefit the most as he has a 93% PDO through ten games. He is also currently fourth on the team in even strength CF% at 50.9%. wherever he slots in come tomorrow will be a welcome addition to a team that sorely needs offensive depth.
Other News and Notes
- It was also announced today that Rene Bourque and Cody Goloubef would both go on IR. Bourque’s injury was described as an upper body injury and the anticipation is that he will be out for a week. Goloubef broke his jaw against the Nashville Predators and is expected to miss six weeks.
- A couple of transactions were made today with the Lake Erie Monsters. Josh Anderson was reassigned to the AHL squad and Justin Falk was called up to the Blue Jackets. One would assume that defenseman Fedor Tyutin may be coming back from his broken nose a little slower than anticipated (he is currently considered day-to-day) thus prompted the need for an extra defensemen.
- Today the yearly franchise valuations from Forbes were released. The Columbus Blue Jackets were 27th on the list at a value of $226 million.
- The Blue Jackets have also had a renaissance of sorts on the penalty kill. Through the first ten games Columbus was a lowly 69.7% but now they are currently ranked at 14th in the league at 80.8%, a huge improvement and a big reason why they have been able to keep themselves in some games.
- For the advanced stats geeks out there DTM About Heart has released his most recent “fun vs boring” matrix and the Jackets are planted in the “fun and good” portion of the chart. This progression isn’t only good for the team but for the fans as well, who are now witnessing more high event hockey.
