Believe it or not UConn Huskies football fans, there is a chance we can win the Big East title and go to a BCS bowl for the first time ever. And how they get there is quite simple.
Thanks to West Virginia routing Pittsburgh 35-10 in the Backyard Brawl on Friday afternoon, all the Huskies have to do is win their final two games, vs Cincinnati on Saturday and at South Florida on December 4th. That’s right win those two and the Huskies go to a BCS bowl.
Right now, UConn stands at 3-2 in the Big East while Pitt and West Virginia are 4-2. Pitt plays Cincinnati next week while West Virginia plays against Rutgers. So if UConn wins their final two games and both the Panthers and Mountaineers win their final games, all three teams would be tied for the Big East title.
But the BCS bid would go to the Huskies because they hold the tiebreaker since they’ve beaten Pitt and West Virginia this season. There are a bunch of other scenarios if the teams finish with three losses in the conference but I’m not even going to go there because Rutgers has completely collapsed and there’s just no way they’ll beat the Mountaineers next week.
So what now what was already a big game on Saturday against Cincinnati, now turns into the biggest football game in UConn history. Win tomorrow and that honor goes to the game against South Florida.
Considering how this season has gone for the Huskies, it’s shocking they have gotten this far. But now it’s in their hands.
And I have the utmost confidence they can get the job done!!!
