What Hat Was Jon Hamm Really Wearing?

The Cleveland Indians might have won Game Three of the World Series…but it was Jon Hamm who really got the, um, goat of Chicago Cubs fans.

Late in the game, while FOX was cycling through its cutaways of celebrities at the game, the “Mad Men” star popped up wearing a simple white cap with red lettering. Immediate thought was that Hamm, a St. Louis native, was repping his Cardinals while watching their division rivals.

Can we get a closer look, please?

Predictably (and because Cubs fans would obviously never wear a cap of their beloved team in enemy territory), fans of the Lovable Losers were furious…and Twitter erupted.

But, much like the “The Dress” arguments from a year ago, there were some doubters. And rightly so.

So who is right? Or, more importantly…who is wrong? Help us out, SportsLogos.net!

First up, let’s look at Cardinals logos.

cardinals-logosWhile Hamm’s hat mostly resembles the logo used by the team from 1900-1919, there are enough differences (most notably, the added flare to the “L” and noticeable lack of a “T”) to say it is not a Cardinals cap.

What say you, Browns?

browns-logosUh oh. That 1916-1935 looks very, very suspicious. Where have we seen that guy before?

So, there you have it…Jon Hamm was wearing a vintage St. Louis Browns hat at Wrigley Field to openly cheer on his St. Louis Cardinals while the Chicago Cubs took on the Cleveland Indians in the World Series.

Hold on. It’s not that simple.

The Browns never, ever, donned anything resembling Hamm’s lid.

But you know who did? You guessed it…the Cardinals. In 1903.

Case. Closed.
