What They’re Saying About Tony Oliva

IMAG0066

By all accounts, 2014 inductee into The Hall of Very Good Tony Oliva is a Hall of Fame-caliber guy both on and off the field.  And that’s probably why there’s no shortage of people talking about the lifetime Minnesota Twin.

Dan Murphy from VoteTonyO:  “Tony Oliva’s fan club is extremely pleased whenever Tony’s contribution to the game is recognized by groups such as The Hall of Very Good.  However, we will not stop our grassroots efforts until we see Tony in Cooperstown.  Thank you to The Hall of Very Good for awarding Tony this honor.”

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire told the St. Paul Pioneer Press:  “He’s huge.  Look what he’s done. He has a track record. He should be in the Hall of Fame. That’s probably one of the great injustices in this game as far as Minnesota goes: Tony Oliva not being in the Hall of Fame. This guy was a great baseball player and a great ambassador for our game.”

Markus Heinsohn, lead developer for Out of the Park Developments:  “Tony Oliva had a promising start to his career — it’s a shame that he couldn’t keep up that Hall of Fame-worthy pace because of his knee problems. However, he’s a worthy addition to The Hall of Very Good.”

Baseball Bloggers Alliance President Dan Shoptaw:  “Tony Oliva was known as a master batsman with the ability to drive a single or drive one out of the park.  Given the recent celebration of all things Twins at the All-Star Game, it makes sense to see Oliva inducted this year.”
