What Tom Brady wants, Tom Brady gets

Tom Brady had all of this planned out.

Prior to Week 17’s matchup at Miami, the Patriots were sitting pretty with the No. 1 seed in the AFC, and home field throughout the playoffs. All New England had to do was win at Miami, and the road to Super Bowl 50 would go through Gillett Stadium.

But this is Tom Brady we’re talking about here. He’s not just out to win, he wants to make sure the people and teams who wronged him remember, that they remember the day they rued with Brady.

So the Pats sat back, and analyzed the playoff setup, and it was quite simple. The Steelers were on the out looking in (No. 7 seed), but playing a very winnable game at Cleveland. The Jets, holding onto the 6th seed, were playing at Buffalo against their old coach, Rex Ryan.

A Pats win together with a Steelers win and a Jets loss, would have meant that the Steelers would have to go Cincy against a backup QB in the Wildcard round. A win there, would set up Steelers-Patriots in the 1st round. Intriguing matchup yes? Not for Brady.

What was intriguing is a setup so diabolical, it puts Bond villains to shame. And yet, it was so simple.

Lose to Miami and clinch the No. 2 seed, meaning a matchup with Kansas City was the most likely scenario. (You didn’t really think they’d lose to Houston did you?)

So the setup worked out like this: Pitt beats Cincy and KC beats Houston, meaning the Chiefs would travel to New England and the Steelers were going to Denver.

The plan was working out perfectly, only two things were pending to happen. One, beat the red hot Chiefs, which they did, and hope Denver knocked off the Steelers, which they did (thanks in no small part to the injury to WR Antonio Brown).

And here we are almost a month later, EXACTLY what Tom Brady wanted- to go back to Denver, the site of the teams first loss, and the place where Brady has never “been so pissed off after a loss“.

So here it is. Tom Brady wanted all along to go back to Denver, and kick their ass. And why not? In his career, Brady has a losing record at Denver. The last time he played an AFC Title game on the road, was a frustrating and Gronk-less 26-16 loss back in 2013. The last time he played at Denver was the Sunday night loss against a backup QB (who in reality, is a better option right now than Peyton is).

What Tom Brady wants Tom Brady gets. He’s got the world on a string, and he’s playing it out to the rest of the world.
