When Vikings Say They Have No Interest in Donovan McNabb, They Are Just Kidding

OK. So the Minnesota Vikings who steadfastly denied interest in Washington Redskins back-up quarterback Donovan McNabb, are actually in trade discussions with the ‘Skins for McNabb’s services, according to a story on ESPN.com.

Guess that was just some of that coachspeak out of Eden Prairie, Minnesota. McNabb isn’t going anywhere he doesn’t want to go. All he has to do is refuse to restructure his contract that will pay him a $10 million bonus if he is on a team roster the day after the first regular season game. Otherwise, he just has to sit tight and wait to be released by the Redskins, then go cut a deal with any team he desires.

Minnesota visits FedEx Field on Christmas Eve for an afternoon game against Washington.

UPDATE: Rich Campbell of The Washington Times reports that the Redskins have agreed to trade McNabb to the Vikings for a 2012 sixth-round draft pick and a conditional 2013 sixth-round draft pick. That gives the Redskins two sixth-round picks in the 2012 Draft for two ex-quarterbacks. Washington traded Jason Campbell to the Oakland Raiders in 2010 for a 2012 sixth-round pick. One of those picks will surely be traded. Campbell points out that the deal is contingent on McNabb’s willingness to restructure his contract.
