It is now almost the hockey season again and the Coyotes are still missing a key piece of their team… an owner.
It seemed for most of the summer, Ice Edge was working with Glendale to come up with a deal. Then all of a sudden there was a “mystery” buyer, later revealed to be Matt Hulsizer. It appears Ice Edge is out of the running yet again. Hulsizer is working with the city to get a new arena lease. Once the lease has been finalized, he will make an offer. It appears that Ice Edge may not be completely out of the picture and the Hulsizer will bring them on as minority investors and possible some operations role.
I tried to find some information on our potential new owner, but a google search did not reveal any dirty laundry or anything all that interesting. Basically the guy is loaded. He is the co-founder and CEO of Peak 6 Investments. Peak 6 was founded in 1997. He graduated from Amherst in 1991 and played hockey while attending college. He has been a board member for NJ Peddie School and Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Co, which was founded by Gary Sinise (Lt. Dan, Mac Taylor) and Jeff Perry (guy that is been in like 1 episode of every tv show since the 80s). It seems like this guy is pretty serious about his money and has been involved in some great organizations. It appears he knows how to handle money and run a successful business. Also, playing hockey gives him knowledge of the sport.
Will Matt Hulsizer be the Coyotes savior?
I went with the business casual picture…
