When words lose their meaning…

Explain how this paragraph makes any sense:

Couldn’t stop Reggie Wayne: Rookie cornerback Derek Cox played surprisingly well against Wayne. But the Colts’ top receiver caught 10 of the 14 passes thrown his way for 162 yards and a touchdown. The Jaguars could’ve helped out Cox more by occasionally using Rashean Mathis to cover Wayne.

Yeah, see, I know he did pick off one terrible pass, but when “played surprisingly well” means you give up 10 catches on 14 throws for 162 yards…I can’t imagine what playing poorly would have meant.
