Where has all the swamp water gone?

Jonathan Papelbon sucked all the swamp water he could handle tonight. Granted, Scutaro’s error in the 6th inning changed the tempo of the game, and Atchison’s gift of a 3 run HR in the 7th pretty much put the Sox in a hole they could not get out of. But Pap? 5 hits and 4 runs in 1 inning? Pap’s lucky as he neither got the loss nor a blown save for this (fill in your favorite adjective here) performance. It did drive up his ERA though.

$how you the money? Pap ha$ been all about rai$ing the bar on clo$er’$ $alarie$, which is why he has been content with 1 year contracts. He thinks he’s better than Mo, and I wish he was. His numbers go south while his his salary goes north. Several baseball writers have speculated upon Pap’s near future- do the Sox trade him this winter? Hold onto him until he is no longer under Sox control? At this point, the Sox may have to hold on to him until at least the 2011 trading deadline. His current trade value has been plummeting this season thanks to 6 blown saves with tonight’s performance on top of the pile of dung like a cherry on top of a double chocolate hot fudge sundae.

The Oriole’s have experienced a rennaisance since Buck Showalter was named manager in August. They have gone 29-17 under Buck and are now over the .400 mark for the first time since Jesus walked on water.

The Red Sox bats, which were supposed to be weak this year anyhow, have been shaved down to toothpicks whenever the O’s come to town. Eight scattered hits and 5 walks plated 1 run for them. The only bright side to tonight’s game was Buchholz’s performance: 6 IP, 4 hits 1 run, 0 earned, 3 walks, 5 K’s and a 2.39 ERA.
