Which Oregon Prospects Could Land On NBA Rosters For The 2014-2015 Season?

Eric Moreland, Oregon State – averaged 8.8 rebounds and 2.7 blocks in just 19.6 minutes per game for the Las Vegas summer league champion Sacramento Kings.

The Kings have signed Eric Moreland after his performance in Las Vegas. Moreland fits a need for the Kings. He provides rim protection, something they have been looking to pair with DeMarcus Cousins down low. He has shown that he can rebound at a high level as well. Their roster currently sits at 14 players with Moreland. Aside from trades and any future signings before training camp, Moreland looks to be a lock with the Kings.

Mike Moser, Oregon – played with the Boston Celtics during the Orlando Summer League. He averaged 13.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals in 26.2 minutes per game.

For Moser, he is apparently mulling over training camp invitations from “multiple NBA teams”. Playing overseas could be an option as well. Making the Celtics roster will be more difficult for Moser than it is for Moreland making the Kings. He did play well with the Celtics during his time in Orlando. I watch their first game versus Miami, and he seemed to mesh well with Marcus Smart and Kelly Olynyk. The problem here is that the Celtics have more than a full roster. His best option might be on another team or overseas. We’ll have to await his decision. I have been a fan of his game for some time now and hope that an NBA team gives him a shot.

Roberto Nelson, Oregon State – played with the Charlotte Hornets during Las Vegas Summer League. He averaged just 2.5 points and 1.5 assists per game.

Nelson didn’t see very many minutes while playing with Charlotte, but he made the most of his minutes when he hit this game winner in a victory over Dallas. I don’t see him sticking to an NBA team this year, but this isn’t the last we’ll see of Nelson. He really upped his game the past two seasons at Oregon State where he averaged 17.8 points his junior year and 20.7 points per game his senior year. His game will continue to improve, either on a D-League team or overseas, and he’ll be back for another shot on an NBA roster.

Maarty Leunen, Oregon – played with the Houston Rockets for both Orlando and Vegas Summer Leagues. He averaged 9.5 points and 3 rebounds per game in Orlando, but only 3.9 points and 2 rebounds per game in Vegas.

Some of you may remember Leunen. He was actually drafted by the Houston Rockets back in 2008.  He then spent the next two seasons playing for their summer league team before heading overseas. He is at a point in his basketball career that he understands his game, as well as the game in general. He is one of those players who does the little things that could land him on an NBA roster. With the Rockets missing out on big stars like Carmelo Anthony and Chris Bosh – while trading or letting go of players such as Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin, and Chandler Parsons – they could have a roster spot available. Leunen, after spending 6 years overseas, is ready to take another crack at it. If he gets an invite to the Rockets training camp, this should be a guy to watch as they fill out their roster.
