Last night, the White Sox continued to outhit and outpitch the Red Sox. Alfredo Aceves had done well in his last two spot starts, but last night he just didn’t have it. He gave up 4 runs in the 2nd inning and then another run in both the 3rd and 5th innings. Alfredo was pulled in the 6th inning before he could record an out when the White Sox scored another 4 runs. His line at the end of the night was 5 IP, 8 R (6 ER), 3 BBs and 1K. I’ve been watching Aceves pitch for years and this is probably the worst outing I have ever seen. Aceves was followed by Atchison who allowed the inhereted runs to score and then some. However, the rest of the bullpen pitched well including the debut of Bobby Jenks from his return from the DL. Jenks gave up a hit that was “this close” to a HR, but all in all he pitched very well. Jenks’ command looked good and his velocity also seemed to be back on course.
The Red Sox offense also had a hard time getting anything going against Humber, except for Jason Varitek. Tek got us on the board in the 3rd with a HR. He also had two more hits on the night for a great night at the plate for Tek. The Red Sox couldn’t get anything else going until the 8th inning when the PawSox helped us out. Josh Reddick doubled and Drew Sutton knocked him in. Then Youk singled and Papi hit a HR to cut the lead in half 10-5. In the 9th, the Red Sox had another rally in their bones backed by the PawSox. Jed Lowrie walked and advanced to 3B. Josh Reddick got him in on a sac fly. Reddick was knocked in by Drew Sutton. The game was ended when Gonzo struck out looking. The rally was fun to watch, even if it fell short.
