The Seattle Seahawks kicked off the 2013 season in earnest when they opened training camp on July 25th. Since then, the Seahawks personnel department and trainers have been quite busy. Here is a quick look at who’s in and who’s out at Seahawks training camp.
Out: Percy Harvin
The $67 million dollar man had surgery on his hip last Thursday and remains out for at least three months. No specific timetable has been established for Percy Harvin’s return and it is possible he may miss the entire season. Best case scenario: Harvin returns just in time for the playoffs, rested and ready.
In: Sidney Rice
Sidney Rice just returned to the team a few days ago after seeking treatment for patellar tendonitis in Switzerland. He began limited practice. On Tuesday, Head Coach Pete Carroll told reporters he was optimistic Rice wouldn’t miss any game action. He may be able to play in the preseason opener on Thursday, August 8 against the San Diego Chargers.
Out: Zach Miller
The 27-year-old former Oakland Raiders Pro Bowler has yet to practice for the 2013 Seahawks. With Harvin out for an extended period and the lack of depth behind him, Zach Miller’s continued absence due to a foot injury is of growing concern at the VMAC. Miller has been dealing with the injury since some time during OTAs. At this point, it looks like he will be on track to play by the start of the regular season, but his preseason availability is still very much up in the air.
In (and out): Early Doucet
To refurbish their receiver corps, the Seahawks reached out to mine the scraps of a division rival. Former Arizona Cardinal Early Doucet signed a one-year contract with the Seahawks on August 2. Doucet spent the first five years of his NFL career with the Cardinals and was intended to vie for a complementary role behind Rice, Golden Tate, Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse. The Seahawks released Doucet on Aug. 7 due to failing to disclose a previous physical condition.
Out: Max Unger
Starting center Max Unger has been absent for the past two practices for undisclosed reasons.
In: Perez Ashford
Wide receiver Perez Ashford was claimed on waivers on Aug. 1.
In: Andrei Lintz
Free agent tight end Andre Lintz was signed on Aug. 1.
Out: Chris Clemons
Defensive end Chris Clemons, last year’s sack leader, remains on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. Carroll recently told NFL.com that he has hopes for Clemons to be ready by week one.
Out: Cliff Avril
New veteran defensive end Cliff Avril has missed the past few days of practice. Carroll is hopeful that Avril will be ready to go next week.
Out: Ray Holley
Running back Ray Holley was released on Aug. 1. He joined the Seahawks on July 28.
Out: Greg Herd
Wide receiver Greg Herd was released on Aug. He joined the Seahawks on May 29.
Out: Victor Marshall
Rookie free agent tight end Victor Marshall was released on July 30.
In: Jameson Konz
Tight end / linebacker Jameson Konz was added to the roster on July 30. Konz was originally drafted by Seattle in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
Out: Justin Veltung
The Seahawks released wide receiver Justin Veltung two days into training camp. He joined the team only two months prior.
Out: Jake Bscherer
Tackle Jake Bscherer was released July 27 after joining the Seahawks in late May.
In: O’Brien Schofield
Linebacker O’Brien Schofield was claimed by Seattle on waivers from division rival the Arizona Cardinals.
Out: James Carpenter
Former first-round draft pick James Carpenter cannot stay healthy. He is presently focused on earning a role as a guard and concluded Monday, Aug. 5’s practice limping off the field accompanied by trainers. He missed practice on Aug. 6. How long he may remain out of action is unknown at this time.
Out: Michael Palmer
Tight end Michael Palmer was released on Aug. 6. He joined Seattle on July 23.
