Who To Fear on the Florida State Defense

The Florida State Seminoles will be looking to stop the University of South Carolina football team in the Chick-fil-a Bowl on December 31st.  In order to stop the ‘Cocks, there is one player that USC fans, and the team, should concern themselves with according to www.chantrant.com .

We traded some opinions with Chant Rant and you can read what we stated about Marcus Lattimore on their site – Did Marcus Lattimore transform pass-happy Spurrier into a run-oriented play-caller? .

The FSU blogger shines the light on one player on the FSU defense that could give Garcia fits, here is what he says….

FSU Defensive Player to Watch: “He hits like a linebacker,” says Jimbo Fisher.

Alshon Jeffery, meet Xavier Rhodes. He’s the redshirt freshman cornerback who will probably be ON your back for much of the Chick-fil-A Bowl game. While no DB in the college ranks is going to shut you down, Rhodes will make it interesting — especially for fans.

Like you, Rhodes earned some post-season All-American honors. They include Sporting News and Rivals.com Freshman All-American teams as well as the National Defensive Freshman of the Year by Collegefootballnews.com. Oh, he was also ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Rhodes finished the regular season with 55 tackles, two sacks, three interceptions and 10 pass break-ups for the Seminoles. Not bad for a guy who missed playing time during the year due to a hip flexor.

What makes Rhodes an aggravation for opposing receivers is not only his speed and coverage skills, but his size: 6-1, 210 lbs. Sorry. Xavier’s not one of those gnat-sized DBs to tower over.

For the benefit of S. Carolina fans, Rhodes’ jersey number is 27. So bring your binoculars and follow the action in what should be a fun and feisty match-up between two guys who are a sure bet to be playing on Sunday in the future.
