The saga of the quarterback position took another bump as third string QB Jacoby Brissett has reportedly torn a thumb ligament in his throwing hand and may need to go about doing surgery on the thumb.
As Brissett is healing with a injury that affects his throwing motion and grip, who are the options now for New England?
Juilan Edelman WR Patriots- As we all know so far, Edelman is the emergency quarterback and going forth with this injury that could sideline Brissett, it’s crazy to say that playing Edelman at QB is an option. We all know that Edelman was a dual threat quarterback at Kent State and converted to receiver with us but the option of him sticking around at QB is a really good possibility.
Jimmy Garoppolo could return for Week 4 as the shoulder injury is reportedly healing and given the extra time off from Week 3, safe to say the odds are in Garoppolo’s favor.
If the options are completely gone on the Patriots roster, the Pats may need to turn to a veteran QB that possibly could hold a stance for 1 game. Brian Hoyer, Matt Cassell are names that sound quite familiar as they played in the system. Sources on social media also pointed out that TE A.J. Derby, tight end, played a little quarterback back in his day at Arkansas so maybe an unexpected hero once again comes through but the options are out there for Belichick and he knows what to do.
