Well, why not? We’ve had everything else happen during this offseason, right? The Eagles have done everything to make headlines this offseason, trade the franchise’s leading rusher, let the #1 wide receiver walk (again), trade their starting QB (Foles) for an oft-injured and former #1 pick, Sam Bradford. Think it stopped there? It didn’t. The Eagles had an agreement with Frank Gore, until Gore backed out. Then, Chip reacts to the market and signed Ryan Mathews AND DeMarco Murray to carry the load this year. So what happens next? Naturally, the Eagles bring in Tim Tebow for a workout!? Tebow has been out of football for almost two full years now and has been working for ESPN on the SEC Network. Look, I’ll be the first to admit it, I’m a college football junkie and would love to see Tim Tebow wearing an Eagles jersey come September, here’s why.
1. Chip Wants Character Guys
Has there ever been a higher character guy to grace the NFL? Tim Tebow would come here as a 3rd string quarterback and would work as hard as anyone on the team. Tebow will say and do all the right things. Yeah, this is a stretch, I know, but I love Tebow.
2. Short Yardage Situations
Tim Tebow and DeMarco Murray in the backfield on third and one is not going to be easy to stop. Tim Tebow can’t throw a football consistently well at an NFL level, but he can be a gadget and situational player. Tebow presents a legitimate read option threat that could be run, or pass.
3. Tebow Has Won Games
People tend to forget that he’s 8-6 as a starter in the regular season and 1-1 in the playoffs. That’s right, Tebow has more wins since 2011 than Foles, Bradford, and the Eagles organization. Let’s not forget the playoff win that he lead the Broncos to over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
4. Look Who Started Games in the NFL Last Year
Geno Smith, Ryan Lindley, Charlie Whitehurst, Case Keenum, Austin Davis, and Connor Shaw are some of the guys that started in the NFL this year. Seriously? I’d hitch my wagon to Tim Tebow over any single one of those guys every day of the week. I’m not saying he should start for 16 games, but I think he brings more value to a team than any one of those players.
Again, I’m a Tebow fan and I would love to see him come here. I’ll try to rationalize it any way I can, but I would love to see him here in any backup capacity. While news has been reported that Tebow will not sign at this point, that certainly doesn’t totally shut the door on a possible comeback for the former Heisman Trophy winner.
