Ok so now you know my story about how I became a Vikings fan and the reason I’m always so skeptical. Let’s go through the reasons on how 2016 can be successful.
Ownership – They spent some money! Get “Harry the Hitman” locked up and I say it’s a successful
Mike Zimmer – When a coach can come into an organizations make the changes that Zim has made it’s bound to work right? Look at how Zimmer and Spielman work together, a GM and a Coach is like a marriage. Lots of communication and giving in sometimes to one another’s wants and needs. If the players buy into the system it’s been proved to be successful. Case and point Captain Munnerlyn. He has stated that himself that his first year under Zim he did not buy in to himself or Zim. Munnerlyn’s second year what a difference.
Coaches – Norv Turner, Pat Shurmur, and Tony Sparano. Assistant coaches who have tons of experience and if they can lead to one solid mold it will bring even more success to the Vikings.
Defense – When you really did not lose much on this side of the ball and added a few additions to a high energy defense you should only get better.
Chad Greenway – Me being in South Dakota I had to bring Chad up. Great player on and off the field and in the locker room which is a critical part of a successful team. Continues to remember his roots back home in South Dakota which tells a lot about his values.
Offense – With the additions on the O-line, which will lead to the key word for training camp “competition,” and drafting a legit wide receiver in Laquon Treadwell. This will help Teddy in so many Teddy Bridgewater-He needs to continue to grow and not regress if there is any chance of advancing deeper into the playoffs as the offense is the key to a successful 16!
All Day – When I read that AP said "We are going to have a good chance to win it this year — win everything," Peterson said. "Sit back and watch. Sit back and watch. You can be like, “I thought you guys were at least a couple of years away.” Nope. You sit back and watch, this year; I get the goosebumps like when I watched Randy Moss at training camp in 1998 and knowing we were going to see something
US Bank Stadium – Will be good, as the players now have a place they can call their home where the last couple years it may not have felt that way, reestablish a true home field advantage.
Strength of Schedule – Could be worse, basically have 2 byes with the thanksgiving game Thursday night game to follow which might provide a nice late season extended break for about mid pack injuries, important to get off to a great start win in Nashville and come back to beat the hated pack in home opener to get leg up in the division.
If all of the above come together and we can avoid any off the field distractions (cough, cough Love Boat, Wizzinator, Texting Jen, The switch) just maybe we will have something special in 2016 and Vikings fans can avoid the inevitable letdown as discussed in my previous Blog.
