Just as I posted my potential back-up to the back-up scenerio this morning… it comes out just a few minutes ago that the Vikings have indeed activated Anthony Harris to the active roster, but also signed Shaun Prater.
The name may look familiar to you, and it should, because Shaun Prater was with the Vikings all throughout training camp. He was also on the team from 2013-2014. He’s played in 18 games for the Vikings as a cornerback, registering 7 total tackles, 1 pass deflected and 1 interception. This past offseason, with the addition of Trae Waynes, Prater was moved to safety… where he practiced all throughout training camp and the preseason. With the emergence of Exum, Prater was a casuality in trimming the roster to 53. But, as you may remember, I projected Prater to make the team in my 53-man roster predictions back in September.
I will say I made extra room for Shaun Prater, but he could be the causality when Jabari returns. However, his ability to play safety and corner keeps him in the mix.
After being cut from our squad, Prater was picked up by the Colts and was a part of their organization until early October. Since then, Prater has been a free agent.
You should like this pick-up because Shaun knows the system (from past seasons, but also training camp). You should like him because he’s played snaps in safety in preseason and had success in the transition. You should also like him because in having conversations with him myself, he’s a very intelligent guy, who “gets it.” You won’t have to worry about him being unprepared (even with only a few days in between games). I’m a huge fan of this move and think Prater may “stick” with this team well beyond an emergency fill-in situation.
