#Brewers have traded C Wil Nieves to the Braves for cash considerations.less than a minute ago via TweetCaster for Android Wil Nieves Traded to Atlanta for $1 Favorite Wil Nieves Traded to Atlanta for $1 Retweet Wil Nieves Traded to Atlanta for $1 Reply

This reminds me of the old Uecker signing bonus joke — “I signed with the Braves for $3,000, which bothered my dad. We were a poor family and didn’t have that kind of money.”

The Braves might be one of the last teams you think needs catching help, but when Brian McCann was hurt in last night’s marathon game against the Pirates, they were forced to put him on the DL today. Without a real solid option in Triple A — Wilkin Castillo and Shawn McGill are listed as the catchers on Gwinnett’s roster — Atlanta had to make a quick move.

Wil Nieves wasn’t making it back to Milwaukee anytime soon, and with Mike Rivera heating up in Nashville, it looked like he had slipped down to 4th (or even 5th) in the organizational depth chart. The Brewers may or may not get cash in return (that’s the “considerations” part), but they don’t really lose anything, either.

You know, other than the 20 games we had to watch him hit .140/.189/.180.

UPDATE: Nieves was traded to Atlanta for $1. I suppose he’s worth a McChicken off the Dollar Menu, but the Brewers do get a small bit of salary relief, as the Braves are picking up the rest of his salary. Nieves was on a one-year, $775,000 deal. He should have somewhere around $277,000 left to be paid this year.
