The Wild have constantly been the butt end of the Blackhawks’ successes in recent seasons, but despite the foibles and struggles Minnesota has had this season, they were able to upend their Midwestern rivals last night, just like every game they’ve played together. In a fit of frustration, both for losing, I’m sure, but also for getting dumped on his ass, Duncan Keith violently swung his stick at Charlie Coyle. That’s Marty McSorley territory, but against a guy that isn’t even a scrapper, as Donald Brashear was. Duncan Keith will be suspended for a while.
SCOREBOARD
New Jersey 2, Boston 1 – The Devils are nearly eliminated from the playoffs. 5 Games left, 5 points out.
New York Islanders 2, Carolina 1 (SO) – The Islanders have only been a disaster lately, and not a complete catastrophe. Yay!
Pittsburgh 5, Buffalo 4 (SO) – The 4-4 game going to the shootout remains one of the strangest breeds of NHL games.
Montreal 4, Detroit 3 – The Canadiens should win out for the next 5 just to really emphasize how bad they were in the middle of the season.
Toronto 5, Florida 2 – When the Maple Leafs win, it’s still opponents outsmarting them.
Minnesota 4, Chicago 1 – The Wild are now 5 points clear of the final Wild Car spot. The West is pretty much set.
Dallas 5, Nashville 2 – The Preds are going to get the first Wild Card, which sucks for them, as they have more travel potential than anyone else in the league, since they will, at the very least, play one team in the LA area.
St Louis 3, Colorado 1 – The Blues see their shut out streak come to a close, unless you count the Avs getting shut out of the playoffs.
