For once, the Phillies played come from behind baseball, as they scored two runs in the ninth, and defeated the Colorado Rockies, 4-3 at CB Park. The Phillies scored right away, as Chase Utley on a 0-2 fastball launched his 16th home run of the season, a no doubt shot to right field, and giving the Phillies, a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the 2nd inning, Colorado tied it, as Wilin Rosario for the second straight night homered, this time to right-center field, his 11th of the year. Then, after back-to-back singles by Nolan Arenado and Jordan Pacheco, and a pop out by Jonathan Herrera, pitcher Juan Nicasio moved the runners with a sacrifice. Finally, Dexter Fowler hit a rbi single to left that scored Arenado, but a strong throw by Domonic Brown, nailed Pacheco at the plate.
The score stayed the same, until the bottom of the 5th inning. John Mayberry got a leadoff double, then Cliff Lee bunted right out in front of the plate, and reached first on a throwing error by Pacheco, and Mayberry advanced to third on the bunt. After Rollins walked, Michael Young hit into a double play, but Mayberry scored to tie the game, 2-2.
The Rockies took the lead in the 8th inning, as Charlie Culberson led off by being hit by a pitch. Then, Michael Cuddeyer hit a line single to right, and Culberson moved to third. Then, with two outs Arenado hit a line single to right that gave Colorado, a 3-2 lead.
It stayed that way until the bottom of the 9th inning, when Erik Kratz doubled down the left field line. After Casper Wells, who pinch ran for Kratz, moved to 3rd on a ground out, pinch-hitter Carlos Ruiz hit a game-tying rbi double that scored Wells, and tied the game, 3-3. After Rollins was intentionally walked, Michael Young sent Phillies fans home happy with a line rbi double, which scored Ruiz, and gave the Phillies the victory.
Cliff Lee, who was 0-4 in his last five starts with an ERA over 5, pitched seven strong innings, allowing nine hits, two runs, six strikeout and no walks. The Phillies will play game four of this series on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 pm.
