If you’re the Villanova Wildcats you played better than your last game vs. the Syracuse Orange, G Maalik Wayns had a huge game, but it just wasn’t enough. The Cincinnati Bearcats defeated the Villanova Wildcats 82-78.

The Wildcats got a huge game from Jr. G Maalik Wayns. Wayns played 38 minutes, scored 39 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, and dished out 6 assists. Wayns was four assists away from a triple-double, but it just wasn’t enough, even though Jr. G Domonic Cheek contributed 19 points. Nova’s bench wasn’t even a factor in this game; as they only contributed five points.

For the Bearcats, they had balanced scoring up and down the starting lineup. Four out of the five Bearcat starters were in double figures. Leading the Bearcats in scoring was Sr. G Dion Dixon. Dixon scored 22 points and was 4 for 7 from three point range. But also let’s not forget about Sr. F Yancy Gates. Gates scored 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.

Villanova’s (8-10, 1-5 Big East) next game is at home vs. the Seton Hall Pirates (15-3, 4-2 Big East) on Wednesday, January 18th at 7:00 PM. Cincinnati’s (14-4, 4-1 Big East) next game is at the #16 ranked UConn Huskies (14-3, 4-2 Big East) on Wednesday, January 18th at 7:00 PM.
