Will Garoppolo Be Replacing Brady Soon?

Question: With Jimmy G. showing some promise, what are the chances that Tom Brady doesn’t finish his current contract as a New England Patriot?

Raj: I think we’ve been seeing it for quite some time. Let’s be clear that Brady is still pretty awesome and reliable. The only problem I see is that other teams have him figured out. I think that contributes to him losing a step but I believe it shouldn’t be an issue.

Rick: In my opinion, Brady still has a good chance of finishing his career as a Patriot, but it’s not a great chance. We know Belichick is quick to get rid of veterans a year early rather than a year late. There’s a reason why Belichick took Garropolo in the second round for a reason and he hasn’t disappointed yet, all be it in preseason games. It’s still Tom Brady and he is the leader of this team, but none of us truly know what Belichick’s full plan is.

Kyle:  Brady is slipping a bit. That is to be expected with a 37 year old athlete. While he is still very good, it seems like average play is becoming an all-too-often occurrence. He is missing far too many open receivers and he is much too willing to surrender on a play, rather than taking a hit.

Derek: I believe that Tom Brady will be able to play at a high level for several more years, and thankfully, his current contract is structured in a way that makes him a “value” player, rather than a cap-eater like Logan Mankins.   The only way I see him being overtaken by Garoppolo is towards the end of Brady’s contract when Jimmy is also due for an extension.  At that point, Bill Belichick may have to decide between the franchise QB and the heir apparent.  Keeping both of them at a high contract would no longer be considered a value, and I’m afraid that youth would likely win out in that scenario.
