Will Middlebrooks was hit by a pitch in the ninth inning of tonight”s game in Cleveland. The pitch hit him on the right wrist and he was forced to leave the game. X-Rays showed that he had broken a bone in his wrist and now will go on the DL and miss the remainder of the season. Danny Valencia has been called up and will be available for tomorrow’s game.
There could not have been worse timing for the Red Sox as they were almost back to full strength with Ortiz and Bailey slated to return.
