Andrew Gross at Rangers Rants says the Rangers have opened up some cap space by assigning Mats Zuccarello ($1.75 million) to the Connecticut Whale and recalling Kris Newbury ($512,500) and wonders if it’s a prelude to them acquiring another defenseman.
…i’ve seen the idea of the Rangers acquiring another defenseman in a few spots, but I’ve got to ask why? As I noted in my post game thoughts last night, the Rangers defense has allowed FOUR even strength goals in three games this season.
…i’ve also be very encouraged with Del Zotto’s offensive game this early season. Thought he had some nice shots from the point last night.
…yes, Eminger and Woywitka aren’t the best options, but Sauer is expected back during the Western Canadian trip and if anyone hasn’t noticed the Rangers might want to think about using that extra cap space to acquire some secondary scoring because Richards & Gaborik can’t bring home a Cup on their own.
…what are your thoughts? Should the Rangers acquire another defenseman? Forward? Nothing?
