Not only were the Wings playing without star Pavel Datsyuk in Game 4, but Coach Babcock got word on his way to the game that he’d be without his captain, Nicklas Lidstrom, too. That didn’t stop the Wings from knocking the Blackhawks up against the wall and leaving the city of Chicago with an easy 6-1 victory Sunday afternoon/early evening.
I know in the last few days a lot of talk has been made about the world of hurt Niklas Kronwall put Martin Havlat in Friday night (completely legal hit by the way). I still don’t think there’s a single person who wasn’t shocked when/if seeing it. It’s one of the bigger hits I’ve seen in a long time in the NHL.
If you told me the Wings were going to waltz into Sunday’s Game 4 minus two star players and pick up a five goal win, I may have been just as shocked at such a prediction. I thought the Wings would win, but I did not foresee a blowout. Kind of like Martin Havlat not seeing the train coming as he looked down to make a play on the puck.
I think it’s fair to say that Chicagoans have gone from calling their city Chicago to Chicag-ow, at least for today.
Tip of the cap to reader David Kelly for the pre-photo shopped pic of this bone crushing hit.
