As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prepare for the upcoming battle with the surprising San Francisco 49ers, one position battle wont come as a surprise. The 49ers will throw the ball to Vernon Davis. The 49ers Tight End is the team’s leading receiver, and they depend on him, similar to how the Bucs depended on Kellen Winslow Jr, the Bucs Tight End extrodinaire.
But Winslow is not churning out the catches like he used to, and the Bucs defense has become stingy against other teams psudo O-line blockers. Having faced perennial tight ends like Gonzalez and Shiancoe, the Bucs have countered by putting Ronde Barber in man coverage against the Tight End. In what is usually a mismatch, its not turning around into a mismatch- for the defense.
Shiancoe had 3 catches for 28 yards for the Vikings, while Gonzolez brought in 2 catches for 18 yards. Dallas Clark had 3 catches for 45 yards.
San Francisco meanwhile has really improved its defense Kellen Winslow has 17 catches on the season for 163 yards, but only one play over 20.
So which one will give? Tune in Sunday at 4pm for the answer.
